State Rep. Mike Mueller recently honored the critical role of 911 dispatchers by declaring April 15-19 as Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Michigan. The resolution recognizes the vital function these professionals serve in the emergency response system, handling an average of 6.5 million 911 calls annually.

In a statement, Rep. Mueller, a retired law enforcement officer, expressed his admiration for 911 dispatchers, stating, "911 dispatchers are the lifeline between the public and emergency services, handling difficult and traumatic situations with professionalism and compassion."

The resolution also emphasizes the specialized skill set required of public safety telecommunicators, including strong communication skills, active listening, quick decision-making, and emotional stability. It acknowledges the dedication and exceptional service of these professionals who work around the clock to ensure the safety of communities.

Recognizing the national significance of the week, Rep. David Martin of Davison shared his gratitude to public safety dispatchers, referring to them as "true first responders" whose contributions to community safety are immeasurable.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, established in 1981, provides an opportunity to celebrate and thank telecommunications personnel for their commitment to public safety.
