State Rep. David Martin is playing a pivotal role in the initiative to establish a unique apprenticeship program specifically designed for members of the Michigan Army National Guard and Air National Guard. Rep. Martin, a co-sponsor of House Bill 5703, is pushing for the recognition of the training and experience acquired by service members in the National Guard towards certain apprenticeship certifications.

"This apprenticeship program is more than just a great opportunity for our National Guard members; it’s also a testament to our commitment to those who serve and protect us," expressed Rep. Martin, emphasizing his dedication to supporting Michigan's service members and their families. He further added, "By recognizing their skills and experiences, we will not only arm them with valuable credentials but also demonstrate that we have their six."

The proposed House Bill 5703 aims to make the apprenticeship program accessible and cost-free for National Guard members. This provision will enable service members to pursue professional development without facing financial constraints. The program is structured to integrate on-the-job learning within duty hours, overseen by the service member's supervisor.

The legislative proposal has been forwarded to the House Military, Veterans, and Homeland Security Committee for review and potential approval. If enacted, this initiative will provide National Guard members with a pathway to enhance their skills and credentials, aligning with Rep. Martin's vision of supporting and empowering those who serve the state of Michigan.
